54 Ultra is throwing us back to those groovy ’70s vibes with his newest Spanglish track, “Tell Me.” It’s all about navigating life after a breakup while secretly hoping that special someone comes back.
The 25-year-old Jersey artist has carved out this unique synth-indie-rock-soul niche that’s honestly pretty refreshing. His vocals hit different when he croons, “tell me where it all went wrong. I could only cry on my own. Tell me with those frozen eyes I love.”
Here’s the thing though – despite those melancholy lyrics, “Tell Me” is surprisingly upbeat. It’s one of those tracks that’ll have you dancing while doing mundane stuff like painting or taking a stroll through the park.
The bilingual element adds another layer of emotion. “Yo sé que te quiero más que al otro que tuviste ayer. Cerca de mi ya no estas,” he sings, mixing vulnerability with that infectious groove.
Currently, 54 Ultra’s making his rounds across North America and Europe through November 10th. Definitely worth catching if you’re into that retro-modern sound fusion.
