Hartlepoolโs indie-pop quintet, MARKETPLACE, has returned with a quirky yet endearing track titled "Ode to Monty." This song humorously flips the script on traditional love songs, drawing inspiration from none other than Gardenersโ World host, Monty Don. Following their vibrant debut EP, this single highlights MARKETPLACE’s contagious energy and clever wordplay.
Produced by Chad Rodgersโwho’s worked with talents like Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Cape Cubโ"Ode to Monty" is a sonic tapestry of rich basslines, crunchy guitars, driving drums, and shimmering synths. Evie Rhodesโs bright vocals add warmth and wit, crafting an irresistibly engaging sound. Evie mentions they aimed for an earnest love song, but with a twist. Drummer Ross humorously pitched Monty Don as a muse, and surprisingly, it clicked.
Taking cues from bands like Alvvays, Declan McKenna, and Pulp, MARKETPLACE has garnered significant support, even sharing stages with Alfie Templeman and Swim Deep. With a UK tour looming, their ascent continues.
