This track, crafted with Belfast musician Gareth Dunlop, came from a chat about their life partners. O’Regan quips, “Gareth and I have incredible, fierce women in our lives… It’s like dealing with an assassin – they kill all the worst parts of you, and leave you with the bits they like the most.” Sounds intense, right?
Flip the record, and you’ll find “Hey Man.” A poignant tune reflecting on the night O’Regan learned a close friend had passed. He admits, “It’s the last phone call that I should have had with him, but I never found the courage to call.” Regret, denial, and a daily chat with a photo of Ian in his studio now keep him grounded.
Since signing with Belfast’s Zenith Cafe, O’Regan is climbing the ladder of success. Definitely a talent to watch!
