Shocka Challenges Mental Health Stigma on ‘Vulnerability Is The New Cool’

Rapper and mental health advocate, Shocka, is breaking barriers with his latest work, Vulnerability Is The New Cool. This collection artfully blends conscious rap with pop, taking listeners on a personal journey full of expressive flair. It’s more than just musicโ€”it’s a movement against mental health stigma.

Recorded over four years with producer and close friend Otis, this album emerged from a desire to address the mental health challenges faced by Black men. Shocka shares, "I did an Instagram Live, and the women mentioned how many Black males were being sectioned and the suicide rates. I thought, โ€˜How can I decrease that number by just 1 percent?โ€™ Vulnerability helped me, and I thought, if I can express that through music, people might find it cool and feel comfortable expressing themselves too."

The lead single, โ€œGood Time,โ€ is an upbeat anthem that effortlessly shifts from intense emotions to lighter vibes. It’s a joyful reminder to pause and savor lifeโ€™s moments.

Shocka’s ever-evolving talent is a testament to his ability to heal and connect through music. His grounded yet optimistic sonic stories continue to captivate us, one release at a time.
