Anna May Unleashes Cosmic Fury on New Track “Atom Bomb”

Folk artist Anna May just dropped her haunting new single, "Atom Bomb." It’s a raw piece that cuts straight to the bone.

Steve Rizzo captured this at Stable Sound Studios, marking Anna’s first release since "Fireflies and Buffalo" hit back in October. According to the artist, this track embodies everything "scorched, devastated, and hollowed out" – pretty heavy stuff, honestly.

The song’s built around a simple acoustic guitar melody. Anna’s smoky vocals float over it, creating this atmosphere that’s straight-up reminiscent of Elliott Smith‘s self-titled second album.

"I wrote Atom Bomb a year ago in early September of 2024, in what seems like miraculous foreshadowing now as I look at these lyrics in the [current] global context," May explains. "I wrote a song about a break up that had not yet happened."

She continues: "The song is simultaneously about two things, and can be interpreted either way: a meditation on a dying relationship or the depiction of a new and scary world order. Atom Bomb, for me, is proof that sometimes we truly do not know where songs come from."

Raw and uncompromising – that’s what this track is. "Atom Bomb" serves as Anna May’s call to arms against the things that hurt us, whether they’re big or small.
