London-based artist Luke Deacon, the creative force behind easyclear, is gearing up to release his debut EP Green on May 2nd. Alongside this announcement comes his luminous new single "Teammate," which perfectly showcases his unique musical vision.
Deacon’s musical journey has been quite the evolution, y’know? He cut his teeth in bands like Young Khan (which later morphed into Sea Girls) and Kid Jupiter before carving out his own distinctive solo path. His sound? A fascinating cocktail of folk elements, expansive electronics, and indie influences that might remind you of Westerman or Djo.
"Teammate" brilliantly embodies this hybrid approach with its shuffling drums, warm bass lines, and intricate fingerpicked guitar work. The track is further enhanced by shimmering synth textures while Deacon’s emotive vocals guide listeners through a bittersweet landscape of wet turf, rain, and memories. About the song, he explains: "Teammate is a song about companionship in its many forms. Through sporting references it espouses the values of trust, commitment and mutual support."
The upcoming Green EP, produced by Alex O’Donovan, delves into the fascinating tension between nature and our digital existence. Each track on the EP apparently evolves into rich, synth-drenched soundscapes that create this sorta warm, retro-futuristic atmosphere that’s hard not to get lost in.
